If you are a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization and already have an approved Causes organization profile (signup for one here), you can begin accepting donations by adding a Stripe account to your organization profile.
Please note: Causes and Stripe have negotiated a 4.0% charge for each donation made through Causes. There is no additional transaction fee charged. If your organization has a pre negotiated fee with Stripe, these terms will remain.
To get started, please follow the steps below:
Step 1- Log in to Causes and switch to your organization profile
Nonprofit administrators can access their organization profile by logging into their personal account at www.causes.com. Once you are logged into your personal account, click on your profile picture in the upper right-hand corner and select **Use Causes As: Organization Name.**
Step 2- Go to your organization profile’s Settings page
Once you have switched to your organization profile, access your organization’s Settings page by clicking on your organization name in the upper, right-hand corner and select **Settings.**
Step 3- Go to Donations
Then, select **Donations.**
Step 4- Connect your Stripe account
To connect your Stripe account, select the blue **Connect with Stripe** button located on the **Donations** page.
Step 5- Create or log in to a Stripe account
After selecting **Connect with Stripe** from your **Donations Account Setup** page, you will be directed to sign up with Stripe.
To sign up with Stripe, please fill in all of the required fields on the form shown below. To see all of the information required please see here. Once you have filled in all the necessary information, select **Authorize access to this account.**
Already have a Stripe account? You can sign in to your existing Stripe account by selecting **Sign in** in the upper, right-hand corner.
After authorizing your Stripe account, you will be redirected to a confirmation page that confirms that your organization can now accept donations on Causes.
Step 6- IMPORTANT: Activate automatic receipts for your organization
Next, turn on automatic receipts from the Stripe dashboard. This will automatically send donation receipts to your donors. Since Causes does not issue an official donation receipt, this is the easiest way for your organization to provide donation receipts.
a. Go to this link https://manage.stripe.com/account/emails
b. Check the "Email customers for: Successful payment" option
c. Enter in your organization’s information
d. Select “Done”
